Meditation by Rev. Diane Rollert, 14 December, 2009
Source of beauty on this crisp winter’s day
Where icicles hang like jewels from the trees,
We reach out to you,
In awe, in aspiration, and in longing.
On the outside, we may each
appear whole and happy – even perfect,
But inside we carry untold burdens,
Untold sorrows and brokenness.
We know how it feels to be a stranger.
We know how it feels to wander alone in the wilderness of our emotions.
We worry for the wholeness of our loved ones,
For children who experience the pain of being outsiders,
For mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, sons and daughters, husbands and wives
Who are ill or recovering, hurting or gone,
For friends who need us in times of trial,
Who are out of work or have suffered disappointments,
For friends we have lost or forgotten.
We worry for a world that is still so far from our vision of justice.
Yet, we gather together to seek comfort,
As we connect with each other through the spirit of unspoken mystery.
Source of Light and Beauty,
Please grant us the love we need
to hold on to each other,
Please bless us with the power to heal
the unseen wounds of those around us.
Please help us to widen our circle
for all who need our shelter, our love and our support.
Transform us into a people who are honest and whole.
We are ever grateful.
For even in our brokenness and longing,
We are aware of the beauty of this world,
Of the sunlight glistening on snow,
Of the presence of those who will love us
No matter what,
Of the moments of joy and laughter we share.
We are grateful for all our imperfection,
For all we have yet to learn from each other,
For all we have yet to give.
Spirit of Life, Infinite Mystery,
Bless us as we are
In wholeness and in brokenness,
And grant us the compassion
To care for each other
As we truly are, inside and out.
