Meditation by Rev. Diane Rollert, June 2009
Into this sacred place
we carry our joys and our burdens –
Gratitude for love and welcome,
Sorrow for unfulfilled dreams in a broken world,
The emptiness of letting go,
The thankfulness of being held,
The aching anxiety of too many worries and questions,
Crowding our thoughts with too much noise,
Or the riotous joy of spring fever
making us fidget and dream,
wishing we could laugh and dance
in the sunlight that awaits us outside.
In this precious moment’s silence,
may we gather into our deepest selves
whatever it is we need this day.
May we breathe in all the beauty and promise of this spring morning:
The irises, the roses, the lilacs
and the cherry blossoms,
the monarch butterfly and the red-winged black bird,
the banks of clover,
the surface of the lake, the river, and the canals,
dancing with the breeze again,
the bright blue open sky,
vast and glorious beyond the bricks and steel of the city.
Come gentle silence.
Come quiet spirit.
May we breathe as one, if only for a moment.
