We light the flame of religious education
to learn with open minds
to teach with helping hands
and loving hearts
Children are cherished members of our religious community. The goal of our all-embracing religious education program (RE) is to provide children and youth with experiences that promote their spiritual growth and intellectual curiosity. Led by dedicated teachers, under the direction of Caroline Balderston Parry, RE classes nurture each child, while fostering friendships, ethical concerns, and a sense of belonging to one other, to our church community, and to the world outside our walls. In small, age-based groups, from pre-school to high school, we introduce children to our own Unitarian Universalist heritage and explore many faith traditions and beliefs: Jewish and Christian, Middle Eastern and Far-Eastern religions, along with earth-based spiritual traditions and rational humanism.

RE programs generally take place on Sunday mornings. We begin in the Sanctuary with the gathered church community at 10:30 a.m. After the "Time for All Ages" (usually a story or a song with universal meaning), the children and youth go off to their different programs as the congregation sings "Go Now in Peace". Their groups convene for about 50 minutes, until the end of the Sunday Service. You are invited to visit the spacious RE levels of the church, where the beautiful children's chapel, classrooms and playrooms are located.
We have a devoted team of teachers and volunteers who are skilled in communicating with the young. Please feel free to speak to any of them or our director of religious education (DRE), Caroline Balderston Parry. To contact Caroline or members of the RE Committee, click here. dre@ucmtl.ca
We also acknowledge the importance of lifespan learning. Please visit the Our Community section of our website for more information on activities for all ages.
