Sincerity's Place

Poem by Abram Friedland for Commitment Sunday, 8 December 2013

There's a place for a conscience
That goes beyond science
And in this place
Nobody insults the colour of your face
Here you can be who you are
Normal, different, downtrodden or star

Here we don't practice exclusion
That only causes hate and delusion
I took refuge here
Because I was tired of listening to fear
And now my life is back on track
As a seeker, a caregiver, and a mathematics hack
That's why I keep coming here
I leave here with cheer
I make my prayers in silence
And go on my way back to math and science
And answering people's questions about why
Taking time for boot camp at the Y
But I always think of here
And how you made my peace come near
