About Us: The Unitarian Church of Montreal (UCM) is an inclusive faith community of about 260 members, families and friends, offering many ways to nurture spiritual exploration and practice, and to participate in social justice. Job Summary: Supporting the mission, and core values of the UCM, the successful candidate oversees and leads all aspects of church administration. Leadership and professionalism is required, for the job, as well as the ability to problem-solve. Essential, is the ability to communicate fluently in both French and English (in writing and orally), and to maintain confidentiality in working with volunteers and the church’s information system.
Scope of the Position: Reporting to the Minister, the Administrator manages daily activities on-site, and has a central role in facilitating ongoing congregational communication. The Administrator is responsible for providing administrative, basic accounting, and clerical services (including interface with payroll services and the accounting firm). The Administrator supervises the Building Manager, works closely with our communications specialist and actively interacts with church staff and member volunteers, providing administrative assistance so that they can effectively carry out their responsibilities.
Requirements: The successful candidate will be self-motivated, reliable, and well-organized, with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds. Fluency in French and English and familiarity with technology (MS Word, Excel, e-mail, etc.) are required. Working knowledge of small business budgeting and bookkeeping, as well as “not for profit” organization management, including records on donations and fundraising desirable. A CEGEP diploma in secretarial studies or office administration or equivalent and/or comparable experience is the minimum.
Timeframe: The Administrator works 32 hours per week (Monday to Thursday, 9:30-4:30 and Friday from 9:30 to 1:30) from January to June and September to December. Summer hours: 17.5 hours per week (Monday to Friday from 9:30 to 1:00), July to Labour Day.
