Forever Young

Prayer by Rev. Diane Rollert, 12 June 2016

Bob Dylan once wrote:

“May God bless and keep you always
May your wishes all come true
May you always do for others
And let others do for you
May you build a ladder to the stars
And climb on every rung
May you stay forever young
Forever young, forever young
May you stay forever young.”

This is my prayer for you,
My young friends and my not so young friends.
May you stay forever young
but be not afraid to age.
Be not afraid
to step into adult life,
to take up your place in this world,
to let your voices be heard.

May you hold fast to tradition
when it gives you comfort and makes you wise,
but never fear taking risks,
to try on the new,
to see how it fits.

May you hold onto your friendships.
May you find hope in a sometimes frightening world.
May you know that the small things you do,
can and will make a difference.

May you find the courage and the strength
to let go of the things
that hold you down and hold you back,
the negative voices that say you can’t,
the habits that disconnect you from the world,
the lies we all tell ourselves that keep us from the truth.
May you always know that you are good enough,
even when you make mistakes.

May you rejoice in who you are,
and know that we love you.

May you grow with confidence to be yourself.
and not worry so much about what others think.
May you find the courage
to accept the love
of those in your life who really care.
May you learn that aging is just a matter of perception,
and may you know that wherever you go,
this church, this sanctuary, this community
will always welcome you home.

“May your hands always be busy
May your feet always be swift
May you have a strong foundation
When the winds of changes shift
May your heart always be joyful
And may your song always be sung
May you stay forever young…"
