The Song and Choir Leader works with our Minister and Music Director and congregational volunteers to create a dynamic, engaging, diverse, spiritually enriching and fun musical experience for the congregation during Sunday worship.

Job Summary: The Song and Choir Leader participates in Sunday worship services 3-4 times a month, engaging the congregation in singing for the joy of singing, using both song books and paperless singing techniques.  The Song and Choir Leader will also lead a choir composed of experienced and inexperienced singers who will rehearse weekly and perform once a month in the Sunday worship service.

Scope of the Position:  The Song and Choir Leader will meet with the Minister and Music Director 3-4 times a month to plan vocal music choices for Sunday worship services, and will then lead the congregation in those musical choices on those Sundays.  The Song and Choir Leader will also recruit, lead, train and motivate a choir that will perform once a month during Sunday worship services, rehearsing once a week, choosing musical repertoire that will engage and inspire, drawing upon diverse musical options from the UU song books and elsewhere.

Requirements:  The successful candidate will have background in musical performance, leading choirs and/or music education, a keen interest in diverse musical styles including repertoire in French.  Experience with percussion or guitar and/or piano will be a plus. BA or Masters in music or equivalent.  The candidate must be able to interact with both English and French speakers. Above all, the candidate must have the ability to inspire groups of people to sing from the heart.

Timeframe: This is a contract position, based on 30 weeks per year (January through June and September through December), five hours per week.  

Compensation:  $20-50 per hour, based on skills and experience.

Audition required:  Candidates will be asked to audition by preparing a song to teach to our congregation and to lead our choir in a rehearsal.
