Benefit Concert for Ukraine

On May 1st, 2022 Eleuthera Diconca-Lippert, UCM’s Song Leader and Choir Director, organized a successful benefit concert for Ukraine.  Our community raised over $2,000 that day alone, contributing to the total of $8,231 that the Unitarian Church of Montreal sent to the Community Association of the International School of Basel (Switzerland) to help fund their purchase of ambulances. Thanks to our contribution, they had the funds necessary to put a third on one the road.  For all of us who were heavy-hearted about the war, it was a powerful act to come together and take action.

There were wonderful performances that day by talented musicians in our community: The Back Alley Roots Band, John Kerkhoven and Patrick Hutchinson, Eleuthera, Jean-Marc Girard, our very own Music Director Sandra Hunt and her husband Gary Russell, Helga and Marc, Cobb's Cats and Shades Lawrence.

Thank you all so much for attending, performing, volunteering and donating to this worthy cause!

Music for an Afternoon

Music For An Afternoon is a monthly concert series organized by our Music Director Sandra Hunt, on the third Wednesday of the month from September to June. The original goal was to give advanced students and young professionals a chance to present their talents on a fine instrument with a ready-made audience from the monthly Midday Meal. During COVID times, our in person Midday Meals have been suspended but Music for an Afternoon has continued either in person or over zoom depending on COVID waves. These concerts, free and open to the public, are deeply appreciated by our community’s music lovers. Look at our Upcoming Events page for more information.

Other Concerts

In addition to fine instruments, the Unitarian Church offers for rental a beautiful concert space with welcoming ambiance, the possibility to record and broadcast concerts to an online audience, and a central location, accessible easily by the Vendome metro or by various buses on Sherbrooke or de Maisonneuve.

Since moving into the de Maisonneuve building, we have had many concerts: chamber music,  (Millennium Series) Jazz (Jazz and Justice series),  choral workshops and performances, (Ysaye Barnwell,Yellow Door Choir, University of Michigan Glee Club, Ensemble Obiora),  musical theatre (Les trois femmes - series of short operas), and fundraisers of all kinds (see Benefit Concerts section above).

During the Covid pandemic, L’ensemble de violoncelles de Montreal uses the facilities every Saturday morning to teach its budding young cellists.  The ensemble will be presenting charming and astounding concerts throughout the church year.
